Armed Forces Days

Picture
November is Aviation History Month and Long Island has an especially rich past. This 1951 @Newsday photo captures some of the 75,000-person crowd at Mitchel Field for a military air show for Armed Forces Day featuring a B-50 bomber, jet fighters, weather balloons, and nuclear fission exhibits, and a chamber that simulated the physical effects of high altitudes.
